Standby Man
A Standby Man plays an important role in maintaining workplace safety during industrial operations, shutdown projects, maintenance activities, and confined space work. The primary responsibility is to remain alert and monitor ongoing tasks while ensuring that workers follow safety procedures at all times. Standby Men are commonly required on oil and gas, petrochemical, construction, and industrial projects across Saudi Arabia. They serve as an additional layer of protection by responding quickly during emergencies, maintaining communication with work teams, and ensuring that rescue procedures can be initiated without delay. This position is ideal for individuals who are disciplined, attentive, and capable of working in high-risk environments while strictly following company safety standards.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
A Standby Man is responsible for continuously monitoring personnel working in designated hazardous areas and ensuring compliance with approved work permits and safety regulations. The role includes maintaining communication with supervisors and workers, checking that emergency rescue equipment remains ready for use, and reporting unsafe conditions immediately. Standby Men assist during maintenance and shutdown operations by preventing unauthorized entry into restricted areas and helping coordinate emergency responses whenever required. They must remain at their assigned location throughout the shift, maintain accurate attendance or monitoring records when requested, and cooperate closely with safety officers to ensure smooth project execution.
Required Skills and Professional Knowledge
Candidates should have a good understanding of workplace safety procedures and be able to communicate effectively with supervisors and team members. Experience in industrial projects is considered an advantage, although motivated candidates with the required documentation may also be considered. Applicants should be physically fit, responsible, punctual, and capable of working long shifts in outdoor industrial environments.
